Funke Akindele movie A Tribe Called Judah has officially become the first ever locally produced movie in Nigeria to hit over N1 billion in ticket sales according to Box office.
The big screen feature distributed by Film One began its nationwide run 15th of December, 2023 and has brought 285, 410 in admissions and N1.06 billion in gross earnings.
It could be recalled that the movie first generated a remarkable sixty million naira in just two days after its release, indicating its potential to break box office records.
It has outpaced other notable titles such as ‘Merry Men 3,’ ‘Orisa,’ ‘Kesari,’ ‘The Kujus Again,’ and ‘Something Like Gold.’
According to standard exhibitor accounting, the earnings of what the executive producers of the film will take home is around 35- 40% based on the deal they signed.
This means for a N1 Billion gross, a N350M – N450M cut is guaranteed as profit.
Interestingly, the billion naira record was previously held by the Hollywood Sci-fi, “Black Panther 2” at N1.04B, making this achievement a major milestone for the film industry.
The movie is an enthralling story centred on a family of boys who resort to robbing a mall to fund their ailing mother’s medical treatment. However, their plans take a dramatic turn when they encounter armed robbers at the scene.
